LinkedIn account needs a verification code

Your LinkedIn account shows needs code or couldn't sign in. Where to enter the code, how a 2FA key avoids it, and what each sign-in error means.

Updated October 3, 2026

LinkedIn often asks for a code when it sees a sign-in from a new browser. Hollerly's cloud browser is new to LinkedIn the first time, so this is normal.

Enter the code

  1. Go to Settings, Channels & safety, section LinkedIn account. The dashboard also shows "LinkedIn is waiting for a verification code".
  2. The account card says where LinkedIn sent it: by email, by text message or in your authenticator app.
  3. Type the code and click Submit code. You'll see "Code sent. Checking..." and the page updates on its own.

You have 10 minutes to enter it. After that you'll see "No verification code was entered in time"; click Try again to start a new sign-in. After 3 wrong codes you'll see "Too many wrong verification codes".

Approve the sign-in on your phone

If the card says Approve the sign-in, open the LinkedIn app on your phone and approve the new sign-in. There's no code to type.

Stop it happening again

If you use an authenticator app, disconnect and reconnect with your 2FA secret key. Hollerly then answers these checks itself. See Connect your LinkedIn account.

Other sign-in errors

  • "LinkedIn showed a CAPTCHA. Connect with your session cookie instead." Hollerly never solves CAPTCHAs. Connect with your li_at cookie.
  • "That session cookie didn't work. Copy a fresh li_at value." Your cookie expired or you logged out. Copy a new one.
  • "LinkedIn says this account is restricted." Sign in to LinkedIn yourself and follow its steps first. See Why LinkedIn restricts accounts.
  • "LinkedIn rejected the sign-in" usually means a wrong email or password.
  • "Sign-in did not finish in time": click Try again.
